Teaching Practice Reflection Week 10 (November 6 – November 8, 2024)

Event: Sub-District School Kalolsavam 2024

Venue: Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Nedumangad

Introduction

Week 10 of my teaching practice coincided with the Sub-District School Kalolsavam 2024, hosted by our school. This grand festival celebrated art, culture, and talent, offering students a platform to showcase their abilities in various cultural events. As teacher trainees, we actively participated in the event’s management, gaining valuable experience in handling large-scale school events.

Participation and Responsibilities

1. Food Committee Supervision:

We were assigned to the food committee and supervised the distribution of meals to students, participants, and visitors. On the first day, I took on the responsibility of serving lunch to ensure all students were properly fed.

2. Event Coordination:

I assisted in coordinating different performances, ensuring that the students were ready and present at their respective venues on time. This helped maintain the smooth flow of the festival’s schedule.

3. Student Support:

I provided moral support to students by encouraging them before their performances and offering assistance when needed. Witnessing their dedication and enthusiasm was truly inspiring.

Observations

The performances showcased by the students were vibrant, creative, and full of talent. Each event highlighted the diversity and richness of Kerala’s culture, ranging from classical dance and music to literary competitions and theatrical plays. The students’ confidence and dedication were evident in every performance.

Reflections

This week offered a unique learning experience beyond classroom teaching. Managing large groups of students and contributing to the event’s smooth functioning required teamwork, coordination, and patience. It also provided insights into the importance of extracurricular activities in holistic student development.

Summary

Week 10 marked a memorable experience as part of the Sub-District School Kalolsavam 2024. By taking on various responsibilities, I enhanced my organizational and interpersonal skills while witnessing the immense talent and creativity of the students. The week underscored the value of fostering artistic expression alongside academic learning in education.
