Date: 9 October 2024
Venue: Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Nedumangad
Class: VIII C
Activity: Yoga Session – Vrikshasana (Tree Pose)
As part of my B.Ed training at Govt GHSS Nedumangad, a yoga session was conducted for the students to promote physical fitness, mental clarity, and balance. The session focused on teaching and practicing Vrikshasana (Tree Pose), which is a fundamental yoga posture for improving concentration and stability.
Objective of the Session
The primary goal was to help students develop better body balance and focus through the practice of yoga, aligning with the holistic development approach in education.
Session Overview
Introduction: The session began with a brief explanation of the significance of yoga and its benefits in everyday life, especially for improving posture, balance, and calmness.
Demonstration: I demonstrated the correct posture and alignment for Vrikshasana. Standing upright with feet together.
Shifting weight onto one leg and lifting the other foot to rest on the inner thigh.
Bringing hands together in a prayer pose at the chest and gradually raising them overhead.
Student Practice: The students enthusiastically followed along, practicing the pose with guidance and encouragement. Corrections were provided to help them improve posture and balance.
Breathing Exercises: Emphasis was placed on deep breathing to enhance focus during the pose.
Cool Down: The session concluded with relaxation and mindfulness exercises to help the students feel centered and calm.
Student Feedback and Participation
The students actively participated and expressed their enjoyment of the session. Many reported feeling a sense of relaxation and improved concentration.
Conclusion
The yoga session successfully instilled an awareness of the importance of physical and mental balance. The practice of Vrikshasana helped the students improve their posture and focus, contributing positively to their overall well-being. Regular yoga sessions are recommended to continue fostering physical and mental health among students.
This experience was personally rewarding as it enhanced my teaching practice and deepened my understanding of integrating physical activities with classroom learning.
